J. Robert Long, CEO
J. Robert Long serves as the Chief Executive Officer of JRL Ventures, Inc. He and his wife, Karen, purchased Marine Concepts in 1994 creating JRL Ventures, Inc. Mr. Long is the cohesive source of support and stability to the company. His reputation, as one of the most well-known names in the marine industry, started after acquiring an MBA and a BS in Industrial Engineering. Mr. Long’s experience extends from executive positions with AMF Crestliner and Starcraft to 17 years as President of Wellcraft Marine. He has put together a team of professionals which has made JRL Ventures one of the most outstanding businesses in the industry.
John Burgess, President
John holds a BS in Engineering from the University of Missouri and an MBA from Pepperdine University in Los Angeles. He has a wealth of knowledge in process improvement and manufacturing efficiency which he has applied in his past positions. His previous position was as President of American Trailer Works with business units including Carry-On Trailer and PJ Trailers that built product in 11 plants and distributed utility and enclosed trailers nationally. Prior to his 14 years in the trailer business, he worked for several tier one suppliers that produced cast aluminum wheels for OEM and aftermarket channels.
Mitzi Sanders, Office Manager
Mitzi earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Arizona State University school of Architecture and Interior Design. She has customer service experience gained through business ownership and has valuable experience in marketing earned through managing trade show activities and coordination. She coordinates office support services including purchasing and facilities management, updates and maintains the quarterly newsletter, websites and marketing brochures,
Kevin Long, Program Manager
Kevin joined Marine Concepts in 1999 and has had a big part in growing the Company into what it is today. Working on the marketing, sales, and primarily the management of customer projects he ensures that customers of different industries and regions are well served from start to finish. With in-depth knowledge of the various industries served, such as transportation, wind, theme park, and aerospace to name a few, the understanding and service of customers’ needs are of Kevin's utmost priority. Kevin previously assisted production where he created schedules, ran CMM and oversaw special projects. He holds an Engineering honors degree from Florida State University and is on the board of Southwest Regional Manufacturer’s Association (SRMA).
Todd Biddison, Program Manager
Todd has over 25 years of marine industry experience, holding positions as Operations Vice President for Biddison Designs, Plant Manager for Four Winns cruiser division and Mako Marine, Product Manager for Wellcraft and Vice President of Operations for Hydra-Sports. He is directly responsible for client communication and project management.
John Bower, Program Manager
John has over 22 years of experience in the composite industry ranging from OEM manufacturing and engineering to power plant systems. During the past 16 years, John has held numerous positions within Mako Marine International, Inc., including Customer Service Manager, Product Manager, Engineering Manager and Brand Manager. John relies heavily on his technical and customer service experience to provide customers with innovative options and attention to detail in addressing their composite tooling needs.
Steve McNally, Program Manager
Steve graduated from the University of Connecticut and has been in the composites industry for over 30 years. Steve has had experience in RTM, filament winding as well as open molding. He served as Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs for the Composites Fabricators Association for seven years. He has over 15 years of experience as a manufacturing engineer in the aerospace portion of the industry. Steve is ready to assist customers with their tooling requirements.
Sidney L. Lanier, Director of Product Development
Sidney is the Director of Product Development and Engineering. His knowledge in CAD and Finite Element Analysis, structural calculations and laminate specification, is combined with his accomplishments in structural design for new models and the development of the first production advanced composite structural grid. Mr. Lanier has a Bachelor of Science degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from University of New Orleans. He has over 20 years' experience in the composite industry. Previously he held engineering and designer positions at Combatant Craft Department, Naval Special Warfare Development Group; Wellcraft Marine; and Hydra-Sports Boats.
Dan Locke, Design Manager & Senior Designer
Dan is a composite industry veteran of over 25 years beginning his design career at Christensen Motor Yachts. He was instrumental in the development of the line of Maxum Yachts and has over 20 years of Unigraphics and CAD experience. His responsibilities include design, engineering, concept development and project management. Additionally, he serves as a manufacturing liaison with customers.
Steve Swarts, Design Manager & Senior Designer
Steve has been in the composite industry for 25 years. He began his career working on the assembly line at Wellcraft Marine eventually working his way up to CAD manager. He worked for Genmar for 20 years prior to joining Marine Concepts. His responsibilities include design, engineering, concept development and customer support.
Chris Jorgensen, Plant Manager
Chris Jorgensen, manager of several departments at our Sarasota location, has responsibilities including the manufacturing of the rapidly growing tooling and parts department. He has extensive experiencing in planning, scheduling, budgeting and managing people. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Florida State University and earned a General Contractor’s license. As a General Contractor he owned and operated Florida West Builders whose company built many custom water front homes in Sarasota. In years past he worked in the plug building shop of Marine Concepts learning the trade of plug building.
Chris Hughes, Operations Manager
Chris is Operations Manager at our Cape Coral facility. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida. He has nearly a decade of experience in tooling and two decades of experience in operations management.
John Long, Mill Manufacturing and Facility Manager
John earned a BA degree from the University of West Florida before coming to Marine Concepts in 1993. His responsibilities include CAD/CAM/CNC applications and managing pre-mill manufacturing. John manages all facilities and maintenance needs at both locations along with the purchasing of all non-production equipment. He has five years district management experience and facilities and maintenance experience with Wellcraft.
